Dramapur: Dramapur SC entered the final of St Joseph’s Festival Soccer defeating Ugem Rising Club 4-3 via the tie breaker played at Dramapur grounds on Sunday.
The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time, despite having some glorious chances to score.
Starting the match on an attacking note, the teams played a positional game, spreading the ball well at both the flanks to try and outwit each other with some accelerating moves for the first fifteen minutes of play.
The defence of both the teams displayed courage and conviction to quell some of the dangerous moves that either of the teams made in both the sessions of play.
Suddenly, the teams slowed down the tempo of the match as they began to probe each others’s defence with some slicing passes but the defence of both the teams gave nothing away.
Dramapur had two smart moves to go ahead but their strikers appeared to be goal shy. In the last few minutes of play, Ugem Rising could have scored the match winner, but the try off Israel Gomes just missed the mark.
The midfield of both the teams also functioned efficiently with Steflon and Nigen combining well to conduct meticulous moves for Dramapur.
For most part of the play, the teams engaged in through ball and tried to find the mark by taking the ball right through inside the box but a goal would not come forth.
Ugem’s Ashely D’Costa had a good game but he did not get adequate support in the front line to find the mark.
In the tie breaker Dramapur SC proved to be the better shooters, scoring accurately through Franky Oliveira, Steflon D’Costa, Aston Fernandes and Merilo Ferrao.
Ugem Rising could find the mark only through Ashley D’Costa, Aliston D’Souza and Israel Gomes. Dramapur will now meet St Anthony’s SC in the final on October 14th, which is a day of St Joseph’s feast in the village.
