Journalist Bhairav Risal has passed away at the age of 97

Bhaktapur – Veteran journalist Bhairav Risal has passed away at the age of 97. He breathed his last a short while ago while undergoing treatment at Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor. He had been receiving treatment for heart and lung-related ailments, according to his brother Puru Risal.

Risal was born on Shrawan 29, 1985 B.S. in Tithali, Bhaktapur. He had already announced his decision to donate his body to Patan Hospital for medical study after his death.

Throughout his career, Risal was honored with various awards, including those related to human rights, the Jagdamba Shree Award, and environmental conservation. He was well-known for hosting the popular radio program “Uhiley Bajeka Palama” on Radio Sagarmatha for many years.

A proponent of leftist ideology, Risal was also a candidate from Bhaktapur representing the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) in the 2048 B.S. general elections.

He served as Chief Correspondent at the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the national news agency of Nepal. Before joining RSS, he worked at the Department of Statistics. Risal was deeply involved in journalism and social service throughout his life.

His published works include “Sadhulai Suli” (Jail Diary), “Logneswasni”, “Kehi Mitraka Chithi”, and “Bhairav Dai”, among others. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
