 Dhankuta,
On 3rd February 2025, Biswasdip Tigela bought land for the school where he studied, built a playground and a permanent stage, and donated them to the school.

Tigela, who now lives in the UK, has been helping his former school many times. This time, he spent Rs. 5 lakh to expand the playground of Bharati Secondary School, Chhathar Jorpati-1, Dhankuta, Nepal. He also built a permanent concrete stage on one side of the playground, installed an iron gate at the entrance, and put a wire fence around the playground. In a formal ceremony, Tigela and his wife, Bhojkumari Thoklen, handed over the land to the Chairman of the School Board, Hom Kumar Limbu, and the school’s Principal, Bhim Bahadur Limbu.

Tigela had also donated land to the school before. In B.S. 2069, he bought the land for Rs. 138,000 and gave it to the school. In 2066, he donated Rs. 50,000 to upgrade the school to a higher secondary level, making him the biggest donor at that time. To honor his contributions, the school management committee has named the new playground “Biswas Dip Tigela Playground.”

The inauguration of the playground and stage was done by Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality Vice President, Ms. Gita Khewa. She thanked Tigela and promised to work with the municipality to organize annual sports events at the playground. Ward No. 1 President, Govinda Limbu, also expressed gratitude, saying that the land was purchased when the school needed it the most. The school’s Principal, Bhim Bahadur Limbu, welcomed all guests at the ceremony and shared the school’s challenges and needs. He said the playground was named after Tigela in recognition of his support.

During the ceremony, the school honored Tigela and his wife with a dosalla (traditional shawl). In return, Tigela honored his former teachers, Guru Bhogendra Raj Adhikari and Rewati Subedi, by giving them Nepali Dhaka caps. Tigela said he always remembers and respects his birthplace, parents, and teachers. He also mentioned that he donates his hard-earned money to the school not because he is wealthy, but because he wants to give back. He promised to continue helping the school in the future.

Tigela has also supported another nearby school, Shree Sharda Secondary School, where he studied from year 1 to 5. About 15 years ago, he donated the first computer to the school. He has also provided sports equipment many times. Additionally, when the four-room Sirijanga Primary School was built in Tismure Danda, he purchased all the roofing sheets and wood in BS 2057.

The playground handover event was held on the day of Saraswati Puja. Students performed over a dozen songs and dances. The program was chaired by Hom Kumar Limbu and conducted by teacher Prem Karki.
