Jakarta, : Indonesia has announced plans to build 63,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2030, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Currently, the country has 3,233 charging stations installed in various locations, as per data from state energy company PT PLN.
“The expansion of charging stations aims to reduce dependence on imported fuel, cut carbon emissions, and accelerate the transition to renewable energy,” said Jisman Hutajulu, Director-General of Electricity at the ministry.
Indonesia’s national fuel consumption currently averages 140,000 barrels per day. With the addition of more EV charging stations, the country is expected to save up to 66,000 barrels per day.
“This initiative is projected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 100,000 tons annually,” according to officials.
